Dating back to 604AD, Rochester Cathedral is the second oldest in England, and boasts stunning Norman architecture, along with fine examples of later Gothic styles. The impressive fortress of Rochester Castle is a short walk away, towering over the River Medway, and one of the best preserved and finest examples of Norman architecture in England.

Described by English Heritage as the most complete Napoleonic fortification in Britain, this historical site dating back 250 years is free to visit – perfect for history buffs or families looking for a day out in Chatham. There are also tours you can take down the Napoleonic tunnels (but you do have to pay for these).
